Visual Arts
St Mary’s Visual Arts programs and studies are considered a core element of our students’ creative learning progression. Visual Arts at St Mary’s introduces a variety of art, craft and design skills to our student cohort, from Reception to Year 12, to help them refine and develop the three basic processes of creating, presenting and appreciating creative works. St Mary’s encourages this visual expression through the exploration of both 2D and 3D creations, art exhibitions and innovative art genres.
St Mary’s is passionate in helping guide students to find their own voice through artistic expression by gathering diverse art experiences. In their early years of schooling, our students are given enchanting and in-depth experiences in art culture so that in their senior years, the students can hone their skills in developing growth mindsets, risk-taking and critical thinking. Our art studies are set against the backdrop of Adelaide’s expanding and immersive art scene, allowing our students to gain a deeper appreciation and love of the arts throughout their studies with us.
The Visual Arts department offers a lunchtime space for students to gather in small groups and explore drawing, painting or clay activities. Students may also meet to complete classwork or just gather for mindfulness activities. Lunchtime drawing club may also be offered dependent on teacher availability.
