In 2019, students of St Mary's College documented our history in Claymation to celebrate 150 years of educating young women in South Australia. Our students learnt valuable artistic skills in working with clay and stopmotion, which resulted in a beautifully told story of some important milestones for the College.
In late 2022, St Mary's College Year 7 students created an animation video in conjunction with JoAnne Bouzianis-Sellick (SA Hall of Fame cinematographer and creator and presenter of ABC series Tiny OZ) and local artist, designer, and filmmaker James Parker. This project was inspired by the claymation history of the College and that we remain the oldest girls’ school in SA (154 years). Students researched and wrote the script and were guided by our artists in residence to create the sets and props and film assets. It is a brilliant way of learning and engaging students in collaboration, project using technology and of course storytelling.
The short film was launched at a special red-carpet event on International Women’s Day (Wednesday 8 March, 2023).
We invite you to watch our Claymation and Animation below, as well as a special behind-the-scenes documentary of how 'The Golden Thread' was created by our talented students.
